Sporting CP’s 2002–03 season was a mixed campaign that fell short of expectations following their league and cup double the previous year. Under manager László Bölöni, the team finished third in the Primeira Liga, behind rivals FC Porto and Benfica. Despite the presence of talented players like Ricardo Quaresma, João Pinto, and a young Cristiano Ronaldo, Sporting struggled with inconsistency and defensive frailties. They were eliminated early in both the Taça de Portugal and UEFA Cup, failing to replicate the success of the previous season. However, this season is particularly remembered for showcasing Ronaldo’s emerging talent before his transfer to Manchester United in the summer of 2003.
